| THE
ALPAMAYO (5947 m.) » |
|
 |
 |
| The Alpamayo
along with the Huascarán are the
most famous mountains of the Cordillera
Blanca, and consequently, one of the main
objectives. Most of the mountaineers that
arrive for the first time have it as their
target and as a necessary mountain for
their sports record. In 1966, in a photography
contest in Munich the Alpamayo was selected
as “the most beautiful mountain
in the world” from that time it
is known like that for many tourists.
To be fair, the purity of its lines and
its spectacular dusks makes the Alpamayo
an ideal dream mountain. Paradoxically
the meaning of the word Alpamayo is “cloudy
river” because of a alluvion produced
by the underflow of Jancarurish lake in
1950. The Alpamayo has two summits, a
north summit (5930m.) and the main south
summit, an aerial edge connects both summits. |
