Huaraz is a city of Peru,
capital of the department of Ancash and
the province of Huaraz, as well as Regional
seat of the government of Ancash.
It is a tourist destiny for the practice
of adventure sports in the mountains.
It is also known like “La muy noble
y generosa ciudad”, phrase that
dates from the time of the fight for the
Independence of Peru because of the fervor
and support shown by its inhabitants who
were united to get their independence.
As a result of an earthquake in 1970 which
destroyed several cities of the Callejon
de Huaylas (in Huaraz there were 10.000
victims), this city was supported with
the solidarity of diverse countries and
for this reason it was given the name
of “Capital de la Amistad Internacional”.

It is located in the north central
part of the country at an altitude
of 3052 masl. in the Callejón
de Huaylas at the foot of the Cordillera
Blanca where the Huascarán
is (the highest mountain in the
country) with 6768 m. in height
on its south peak.

Huaraz is located to 400 km. to the north
of Lima and is connected with this city
through the Carretera Panamericana Norte
on a seven-hour trip. Huaraz is connected
to Caraz and also through the spectacular
Cañon del Pato to Chimbote in the
Carretera Panamericana.
Few kilometers to the north
of Huaraz it is the Anta Airport,
which is only used by small
aircrafts from the two most
important mining companies of
the region.

in the Carretera Panamericana
near Sechín.
